Fantasy Vs. Reality

I absolutely LOVE when it's time to teach about Fantasy and Fairytales! There are so many good books out there. Some of my favorites are the fractured fairytales! The kiddos LOVE it, but sometimes have a hard time differentiating between fantasy and reality scenarios. Because of this, I thought it would be so fun to make some games and activities to help them! Fantasy vs. Reality packet to help introduce the difference between reality and fantasy! I even loved seeing them read the cards because they thought some of the "fantasy" cards were too funny!

I did these in small group with my students but it can be done whole group or in a literacy station! Click on the picture to grab a copy! :)

I hope you enjoy this as much as my kiddos and I did! :)

Valentine's Day Fun!

I found a really great idea to do with my kiddos from one of my friends Amanda at Let's Get Fancy in First! I LOVE classroom community and really try to encourage my student's to compliment others. Well, this activity was perfect! It can absolutely be done any day, but I thought it was appropriate for Valentine's Day! I wrote all of my kids names on a heart and randomly placed them on each child's desk. When they got back from lunch they were itching to find out who they were going to write about! Afterwards, we shared and the student's read their "note" to the class (and the person they wrote about). It was absolutely adorable! Check out her blog to get more great ideas!

Lovebug Compound Words

Who doesn't love cute hearts and adorable bees? Well, I know my kiddos loved it! We have been learning about compound words. It's in our first grade curriculum but my kinders were dying to learn about it too! Both grades had so much fun buzzing around finding the matching compound word! :) Click on the picture to grab a copy of your own!

Magazine Vowel Hunt FREEBIE!

My kiddos did this vowel hunt activity yesterday and loved it! They cut out words to place in the long and short vowel category of each letter. After they had at least one word, I let  them find pictures for each sound. They LOVED it! It was really cool to see them asking if certain vowel teams were allowed and such. It was awesome! They did so great! Click on the picture to grab this freebie!

Loose Teeth? These kiddies will get a kick out of Dental Health Month!

Somehow in my classroom the theme this year is let's talk about teeth and let's show Ms. Brooks our wiggly teeth every day! Haha, I'm sure you can relate. My kiddos LOVE their teeth and love talking about dental health. Well, fortunately for them, February is Dental Health Month! So, in honor of that, I created some writing prompts to go with it. Check it out :)

Rainbow Write Templates

My kiddos beg beg beg to rainbow write any words they can! I figured by now they would be sick of it, but nope....they keep wanting more! So I made some more rainbow write templates! I plan on making some more soon!!

Ai/Ay Fun!

I LOVE making and creating things for my kiddos. One thing that I've been really wanting to do is make units for them (and for others as well!). I finally made my first full unit. These are GREAT for Literacy Work Stations. I have used them for pocket chart station, word work station, write the room station, writing station, and sentence building station. The kiddos go nuts over cute pictures and fun ways to sort their sounds. Since this weeks sound was the Long A: ai/ay I made a packet to go with it! Check it out!
