We have been working on main idea and detail, which can be a very tricky concept to understand! To help my kiddos visualize this a little more, I made a graphic organizer.

Sequence Writing
I love sequence writing! It's so fun when you can use it in retelling or in expository writing! I also love being able to allow my students to draw pictures to go with their writing. This will help assist your students in what to write in their sequencing! :)

There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves
I absolutely love the "There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed..." Books. I found this cute idea of a sequencing activity from Mrs. Williamson at Welcome to Room 36! I added sticky notes for the kids to draw the pictures on and they loved it! They were all begging to come up. I made the background separate from the sequencing words, so I can use it again with the other stories.

Pout-Pout Fish craft and foldable
We made this cute craft to go along with our first foldable of the year. The kiddos did awesome! They wrote the title, author, characters, and setting in our flapbook. I can't wait to make more of these!

Morning Work
Specials Clip Chart
I can finally BREATH
Phew! I cannot believe how busy I have been the past two weeks. My goal of wanting to blog everyday hasn't been reached yet, hopefully now that we are in full swing! I got my kinders on Monday and we have had an AWESOME week so far! It is definitely challenging to teach a combo class but it's so worth it! I love being able to teach two curriculums and make up lessons for a variety of skills and strategies! I am hoping to post often (if I'm lucky, then daily) about the ideas and activities that we do in our classroom! Stay posted :)

Look WHO'S in Ms. Brooks' Class
I am so fortunate to have these two huge bulletin boards outside my classroom so I figured why not make a fun back to school board! It still needs some work but I'm almost there :)
Love my cricut!
I have always had an obsession with my circuit but now that I've been able to make these ADORABLE owls I can't stop cricuting! Stay posted for more classroom pictures :)

Whoo's excited for a new school year?
It's now finally time to get into full swing and prepare for a new school year. Preplanning started this week so we all have been busy preparing for the arrival of our new kiddos! I am so excited to finish getting my room ready. I moved into a bigger classroom this year so the first thing that I wanted was a HUGE word wall! In honor of the "owl" theme, I had each owl stand for a different vowel...it still needs some touching up but here's a picture of it! :)

Class theme!
I have never really done a specific class theme other than the beginning of the year typical "back to school". This year I decided to do a theme. I got inspired by some really cute things on pinterest and I'm going with an owl theme. I ordered the "hoot n holler" cartridge for my cricut so I'll have a ton of options for bulletin board/decoration making! I'll be sure to post pictures all of the cute things I make :)

Classroom Organization
One of the things that I LOVE is to organize. I seriously organize things that are already organized...sometimes it overwhelms me! But hey, I aways know where to find things!
Here is where I store my materials for the entire week. This is such a great tool because then there are never papers piled up and I can copy stuff ahead of time!
My classroom library is also organized so that the students always know where to put a book when they are done. Each basket has a label with the "genre" and it is in a certain color. The color on the label matches a small round circle on the bottom of the book. The children then know where to place the book after they are done reading it! I also try and put a dot on the label just in case the color is a little different, or if I put a design on the sticker!

New Blog Name...FINALLY!! :)
Things are finally coming together! I came up with a name that I could use for my combo class and I'm ready to get started on the planning this summer! Keep posted for new updates and ideas for the upcoming school year!

ABC's of Kindergarten
Every year I like to give my parents a document with information for the beginning of the year. I have sent home this document and parents have loved it! Now that I'm teaching K/1, I have to redo it to cater towards this year! :)

Grade Change!
I just found out that I will be teaching a combo class this year of K/1! I am so excited. Because of this, I will be uploading documents and blogging about my kindergarteners, first graders, and my experiences in teaching a combo class! I'll be starting to add stuff this summer on my planning and preparation. Check back for more information!

Additional Beginning of the Year Documents...
I love this little writing activity because it is so fun to see what adjectives (or random words) the kids put in the blank to describe their first week in K!
I always have a document with me that tells how my students get home. This is great when you have a substitute because you can just give them this document. If you would like a copy with different titles on it please let me know and I will be more than happy to create one for you

Beginning of the Year
I constantly find myself wanting to redo my beginning of the year documents every year. I do many beginning of the year documents that I save for our memory books at the end of the year. Sometimes I do the same worksheet at the end of the year to see how much they've improved throughout the year. The parents LOVE it!
Happy Summer Blogging!
Happy Summer! I promised myself two years ago that I would start a blog and I am FINALLY doing it. I am a kindergarten teacher and wouldn't trade my job for the world. I love crafting and creating things for my kiddos! I also love sharing my ideas with others and getting ideas! Throughout the summer I will be uploading some of my ideas that I have used throughout the years and blogging about them! I am currently working at a summer camp up in North Carolina, so times may get busy but hopefully I'll get to post daily!
Please feel free to leave comments. If there's anything that you want please feel free to e-mail me and I will gladly send it to you. Eventually I will set it up so that my documents can be downloaded from google docs or teachers pay teachers. I am so excited to start blogging!
